Edison: Municipal Animal Shelter is located in New Jersey.

The pit bulls at this shelter on not advertised to the public for adoption and only rescue groups can pull them.
They are walked once a week and the rest of the time sit in there cold cage.
There is a real pit bull crisis there and MANY are put to sleep on a weekly basis.

If you are a rescue group, please consider these poor dogs!

So you wanna volunteer at the Edison Municipal Animal Shelter? Well, sure you can! But, there are a few steps you need to follow beforehand.

First and foremost, do you like animals? (Haha, just kidding; obviously you do, or else you wouldn't be in this club.) No, really, you may be an animal-lover, but are you comfortable with handling them? At the shelter, you will probably be walking the dogs. If you have a dog of your own and/or are relatively comfortable around them, then you should be fine.

Next, you must get an application from Mrs. Hubbard. They're usually right outside the door of room A7, but if not, ask for one in person. The application must be filled out completely and signed by your parent/guardian. Volunteering at the shelter is a serious task and does present some risk, since you're dealing with animals whose behaviors are never fully predictable. Your parents/guardians need to be aware of where you are and what you're doing.

After submitting your application, you will be informed of when the next orientation will be held. Attending an orientation is MANDATORY for all shelter volunteers. At the orientation, which is essentially a tour, a shelter employee will show you and a small group of other volunteer-hopefuls around the shelter and the do's and don'ts of handling the animals. Again, you MUST attend the orientation; otherwise, you cannot volunteer.

When you've met all of the aforementioned requirements, you are then able to volunteer at the Edison Municipal Animal Shelter! Volunteer sessions will be held almost every Wednesday from 5:30PM to 7:30PM.

1. Head south on Grove Ave. toward Hawk Dr. [2.2 mi]
2. Turn right at Middlesex Ave/ Rt 27. [0.8 mi]
3. Turn left at CR-501/ Lake Ave/ Rt 27. Continue to follow Rt 27. [2.1 mi]
4. Turn right at Thomas Edison Blvd. [0.3 mi]
5. At the traffic circle, take the 4th exit and stay on Thomas Edison Blvd. [0.1 mi]
