After being tied to a dumpster and left for dead, Sophia has absolutely no reason to trust people. Despite these odds, Sophia is filled with nothing but LOVE. Before arriving at Animal Haven, Sophia was fostered by a kind police officer who found her at the dumpster. She is incredibly sweet and quiet and wants nothing more than tenderness and affection. She is good with other dogs and passed our behavior evaluation with flying colors.
The Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals, Inc., is working with the City of New York toward the day when no New York City dog or cat of reasonable health and temperament is killed merely because he or she does not have a home.
Bobbie and the strays is a great rescue group located near JFK in NYC. Check out the sweethearts they have seeking a home http://bobbiandthestrays.org/About_Us.aspx
TICKLES HAS BEEN THROUGH SOME TOUGH TIMES ... she was in the high kill shelter, then put on the euth list, then she was saved by a rescue! Now she's safe, but a little sad, because it's been too long a wait for her forever home. SHE'S BEEN IN A KENNEL FOR OVER A YEAR! Tickles desperately needs a good foster home, or a forever home. She is an incredible dog, beautiful little face, great chubby body, but weighing only 35 lbs! such a great size for an apartment or condo if that's where she's headed. She has all her shots, she's spayed and ready to go! And she's HOUSEBROKEN! At 3 years old, she's past all that puppy stuff, but has lots of years ahead of her. She loves all people, blankets, toys, belly rubs, kisses and long walks. She's VERY smart, and sits for treats. She'd do best in a household with no kids or dogs (they make her too nervous!), but it's a certainty that she will be someone's best friend for life! She just needs that chance!! If you can foster or adopt Tickles, please respond to: MKLMLKWK@aol.com LOOK AT THAT FACE!!
So I think I need to address the fact that very soon Michael Vick will be out of jail.
In April 2007, the nation was shocked when dozens of traumatized pit bulls were discovered during a police raid on a property owned by Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick. The dogs were housed at Bad Newz Kennels, an illegal dogfighting venture operated by Vick and three other men. At Bad Newz Kennels, poor-performing dogs were executed, and many of those that survived showed signs of past injuries and psychological trauma. Many people believed that these pit bulls were too far gone to be rehabilitated and should be put down, but 47 were given a chance at a better life.
I have been following the journey of some of these dogs and these 2 touched my heart:
Cherry: who may have been used as bait to train more aggressive fighters, was so terrified of people when he first arrived at Best Friends that he flattened himself to the ground at the first glimpse of a human and refused to be walked on a leash.
Georgia: her body tells the story of her hard life. She has the scars of a prized fighter, and shows signs of having had many litters. Somewhere along the way, her teeth had all been pulled, possibly so she could be forcibly bred.
So yesterday I came across this TV show on National Geographic. It's called DOG TOWN It's about an amazing animal sanctuary in Utah called http://www.bestfriends.org/
